How to correctly distinguish between hot-dip galvanized pipes and galvanized strip pipes?

How to correctly distinguish between hot-dip galvanized pipes and galvanized strip pipes Understanding the production process is very important

The demand for galvanized pipes is high. However, many people are not clear about the various classifications of galvanized pipes, such as hot-dip galvanized pipes, galvanized strip pipes, and electroplated galvanized pipes. Below, we will introduce them one by one.

1、 Electroplated galvanized pipe

Firstly, let's introduce electroplated galvanized pipes, also known as cold galvanized pipes, which undergo a chemical reaction between the surface of the steel pipe and the zinc layer through electrolysis at room temperature. The use of electroplated galvanized pipes as water pipes has been banned since 2000, which poses a risk to human health and will not be introduced. Galvanized pipes are currently commonly used as steel supports and other products.

2、 Hot dip galvanized pipe

Generally speaking, hot-dip galvanized steel pipe refers to a galvanized pipe that is formed and then galvanized. It appears yellow white to the naked eye and is not very bright. The surface used has zinc particles, and the pipe ends are relatively rough.

The thickness of the galvanized layer on the product is uneven, the amount of zinc used is large, and there are many personnel on the production line with high work intensity. With the continuous rise of labor costs, the cost of the product continues to increase. Faced with fierce market competition, there has been malicious price competition in the market, and profit margins are constantly being compressed, forming a vicious cycle.

Blow coating process is a relatively good process that uses compressed air to control the thickness of the galvanized layer by controlling the air pressure. The thickness of the galvanized layer of the product is uniform, the amount of zinc used is small, and the cost of raw materials is reduced. In addition, due to the use of semi-automatic equipment, there are fewer personnel involved.

3、 Galvanized strip pipe

Galvanized strip pipe, also known as pre galvanized pipe, appears shiny to the naked eye and has a smooth and beautiful surface. Strictly speaking, it is also a type of hot-dip galvanized pipe, with a different processing technology. Galvanized strip pipes are generally made by first coating bare narrow strips with zinc through continuous hot-dip galvanizing equipment, processing them into galvanized strips, and then welding the galvanized strips into galvanized pipes. From a process perspective, galvanized strip pipes have a diameter of less than 4 inches and a wall thickness of less than 2.4mm due to being galvanized first and then made into pipes.

In summary, hot-dip galvanized pipes and galvanized strip pipes have their own advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of hot-dip galvanized pipes is that the zinc content is above 210g/m2, which can be used as water pipes. The disadvantages are high price, long production cycle, and heavy environmental pollution caused by the production process; The advantages of galvanized strip pipe are lower price, shorter production cycle, less pollution, and smooth and beautiful steel pipe surface compared to hot-dip galvanized pipe. The disadvantage is that the amount of zinc added is much lower than that of hot-dip galvanized pipe.

After understanding the classification and production process of galvanized pipes, the specific type of steel pipe to choose depends on the various parameter requirements of the project for galvanized pipe products. If the zinc content requirement is not very high, galvanized strip pipes are the best choice. If the procurement is not understood, it may cause losses.
